open window...TSTR #167

It's that time of year to throw open all the windows and let all of the spring air in. It's also time for a new challenge over at The Shabby Tea Room and our theme is windows. Create a card or project using :
                                              *COLOURS IN THE PHOTO.
                                              *INCLUDE A WINDOW.

Isn't that a great inspiration photo, provided to us by our hostess this week Rebecca! Our sponsor is My Time Made Easy and we all got to play with the "Carry It" template. Play along and you could win a great prize from MTME!

A simple little cottage with a sugar dusted glitter roof. You could make a whole village of these little carry it containers!
Hope you will play along with us this week! Be sure to check out the other Shabby Girl's blogs:

Crafty Secrets May Linky Party...

Hey there!!
The Crafty Secrets gals are back for an all new Linky party. This month we are focusing on techniques. There's a ton of great information on all the DT blogs today so make sure to hop over to each one for a new technique.

009

Today I'm here to share my project using paper piecing.  I chose a pretty file from CD #2 Creating with Vintage Illustrations. Gather up all of your supplies.. Some craft glue, scissors, Gesso and a paint brush or two.

011

I printed my image to the size of my chipboard album and printed it 3 times. Twice on heavier card stock, and once on regular paper.

015

Add a good amount of glue to the chipboard and carefully glue the image printed on regular paper down.

016

Add some gesso to the edges of the image to soften it and paint the edges too. I watered down my gesso by about 10% to make it easier to blend on the image.

021

Here's a view of the before and after. Just softening the edges but still able to see the pretty font through the gesso.

026

With the gesso feel free to add some texture. Use thicker gesso and your brush to leave brush strokes etc. Kind of hard to see here but it has a nice texture in person.

030

Time to cut out the individual pieces that you want to add drama. Here I cut the edges of the butterfly wings, to add to the second butterfly. Cut out which ever pieces you want to pop out.

033

Use all different thickness of foam adhesive to achieve height.

062061

Add dimension and some embellishes.

065077

I added a little tag and some ribbons and buttons. This could be used as a plaque or as a cover for a mini album. I'm not quite sure what I will use it for just yet.
Be sure to check out the Crafty Vintage Girl shop for the 30% off sale to snag yourself some great Crafty Secrets Products and hop by the rest of the DT for step by steps and other great info:

totally textured...TSTR #165

Happy Monday to you all! We're back again with a brand new challenge over at The Shabby Tea Room. I have the pleasure of being your host, and this week it's all about texture! Play along and create a card or project using:
                                                  *DRY EMBOSSING
                                                  *STITCHING

Isn't that phot just full of different textures. It's love! I just love using both of these to add detail and interest to cards. This week Debbie's Paper Sweeties are sponsoring us and I used the beautiful Fancy Monogram stamps for my banner. They are so intiricate and have such a lovely detail.

036

I used my Cuttlebug embossing folder and hand stitched the bird. Just love how subtle the swirls are.

Those beautiful monograms, just adding to the sweetness.

A little texture goes a long way I say. Play along with us this week and you could win 2 stamp sets from Paper Sweeties! Be sure to visit the other Shabby Girls!

beautiful spring...TSTR #164

Hi there!
Hope your weekend was wonderful! I'm back with the Shabby girls for our brand new challenge set for us by Lenet over at The Shabby Tea Room!. Lenet asks that we create a card or project using:
                                              *COLOURS from the photo
                                              *FLOWERS
                                              *LACE
                                              *RIBBON

Our sponsor this week is the Cutting Cafe and I chose to use the Seed Packet file. SO much fun to make my little tea bag holder. Play along and you could win 3 files of your choice. How fun! This little project of mine was so simple and quick to whip up. Just a perfect pick-me-up for a friend. I used Paper Sweeties "I'm Having a Tea Party" for the sentiment and sweet tea pot image!

Be sure to pop by the rest of the Shabby Team to see what they created this week!

mason mini...

side view

I'm back again with a mini-album I've made using the new Crafty Secrets Button Up digital stamp set,  the new Sewing papers and Ephemera digi's available at the CraftyVintageGirl store. These digi's are choc-full of gorgeous images to play with! I used the pretty Mason Jar stamp to make the pages of my mini here today. What I love about these is you can re-size and re-colour them to suit your hearts desire!

front cover

After changing the colours to a pretty pastel blue and pink from the original black, I added all sorts of fun embellies; Stitching, a fabric yo-yo..distressed chipboard and those great scissors and spool from the ephemera pack.

I used some Glimmer mist and inks to add colour to the scissors and dimensional glue to give it a nice raised texture and glossy shine.. I'd love to own a pair of ornate scissors like these. Wouldn't you?

button card close uppage 2

I fell head over heels for the sweet button cards and have used them a few times (here and here) and had to include one, complete with matching buttons. On the back of each jar is a measuring tape paper pocket to tuck some goodies into!

One of my handmade paper-clay frames sits on top of a pretty ornate frame, I fussy cut from one of the frames found in the ephemera. Some trims and a journal tag top off this mason jar page.

I just had to include this cute little birdie..stitched and with a dimensional wing..he matches quite well with the spool top.

050

A kraft envelope to tuck in some more goodies. I tried to limit patterns and colours and keep them all the same, repeating elements to get a more cohesive look to my mini..

A pretty little needle packet all dressed up pretty...

Vellum pocket holds a sweet sewing saying and a 3-D lid topped with pretty ribbons rounds out this little pocket project of mine..

One more shot of the layers, just because I love looking at the mis-matchedness of it all...
Have a wonderful weekend friends!

spring bliss...TSTR #163

It's time to 'spring' into action to create for our new challenge over at The Shabby Tea Room. This week Debbie is our host and has come up with the challenge for us this week to use:
                                          *COLOURS- YELLOW, GREEN, WHITE
                                          *POLKA DOTS
                                          *FLOWERS

Isn't that picture just scrumptious?! So springy, so bright, so fresh! Our sponsor this week is Manor House Creations and they are offering up 4 flower packs for our winner this week!
I went with a birthday card. I just loved this colour scheme and went for more of a muted yellow and green palette. The sentiment is from Paper Sweeties.

Be sure to stop by and check out what the other Shabby girls created this week:
